Presentation of Vlaams Belang

Vlaams Blok (Flemish Bloc), a Flemish nationalist party who wanted an independent Flanders (including Brussels), was banned by a court arrest following the conviction, on the charge of racism, of three non-profit organizations linked to the former party. The party program was touched up and a new name, Vlaams Belang, was chosen on 11 November 2004.

Flags of Vlaams Belang

The flag of Vlaams Belang can be seen on the party website. The art director Fabrice Morreau, designer of the logotype and flag, left Vlaams Belang for a maverick liberal party end of April 2005.
On a photography (Belga Press) published in De Zontag, 6 May 2007, of the funeral of the party founder Karel Dillen, flags of Vlaams Belang are dipped to the left of the hearse's route, while flags of the Vlaams Blok are dipped to the right.

Vlaams Belang Jongeren

The party's Internet shop shows the flag of the youth branch of the party, Vlaams Belang Jongeren (VBJ), as divided per the ascending diagonal white-yellow, with the VBJ emblem, derived form the mother party's emblem, the black letters "VBJ" and the branch's name.

The official flag of Vlaams Blok was as follows:
- upper half: yellow field with a black Flemish lion (no red tongue or claws - the independence movement uses an all-black lion, whereas the official Flemish lion has a red tongue and claws).
- lower half: black field with the Dutch colours on it. (Thus, in fact, five horizontal stripes: black, orange, white, blue, black).
On the white stripe, there is the name of the party Vlaams Blok in black and on the lowest black stripe the name of the province or section in white, e.g., AFD. AALST (section Aalst).

Karim Van Overmeire, 27 November 2000

BRTN (Flemish public TV) news reported a meeting of Vlaams Blok. There were two sorts of flags side-by-side: yellow with a black lion, and a logotype on a white field.
Although the flag with the logotype probably is not the party flag, on stage there were as many logotype flags as official party flags.
